The Macedonian language (or македонски јазик/makedonski jazik, pronounced [maˈkɛdɔnski ˈjazik] in Macedonian) is a South Slavic language, spoken as a first language by two million people, principally in the Republic of Macedonia and the Macedonian diaspora. Macedonian dialects form a continuum with Bulgarian dialects; they in turn form a broader continuum with Serbo-Croatian through the transitional Torlakian dialects. The modern Macedonian language has no relation to the Ancient Macedonian language. Writing system: Cyrillic (Macedonian alphabet) Official language in: Republic of Macedonia
